Jaken Berry's surgery & treatment in Philadelphia

In January of 2023 Jaken was diagnosed with a very rare tumor called pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma. There have been fewer than 60 cases ever documented in the world. His tumor originates from his skull and was initially treated with chemotherapy to treat the cancer presenting on his scalp, as a lot of you may know or have guessed.

After our consult with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on the 18th of January, 2024, Jaken has decided he will be undergoing surgery to resect a large portion of the top of his skull to remove the tumor. They will be replacing what they remove with a titanium plate designed specifically to replace what they take out. We take comfort in knowing the surgery is being done by one of the best neurosurgeons in the world (Dr. Storm). After our meeting with Jaken's oncologist, his neurosurgeon, and his radiologist at CHOP we feel this is his best path forward for Jaken to have the possibility of being cancer-free.

His surgery is now scheduled for Friday, February 9th. We will be required to stay in Philadelphia for 7 to 10 days while Jaken is in ICU and follow up care.

Following a 6-week healing period at home his care team members will meet to decide peramotors and timeline of subsequent treatment. We will mostly likely be required to stay in Philadelphia for approximately 2 months for his daily proton radiation treatments and therefore required to rent a place in the city for approximately another 2mths.

Jaken will receive $3 to $5 of each purchase to help pay for his surgery and stay in Philadelphia.

There have been inquiries from folks who would prefer to just donate. However, from what I can tell you are required to purchase a shirt in order to donate, therefore, I have created this GoFundMe page for that purpose.

Please do not feel any obligation, as this is only in lieu of purchasing a Jaken's Warriors shirt should you choose to do so.

We are very thankful for the love and support we have received thus far. A lot of you continue to ask what you can do to help us, right now we ask that you continue to pray for Jaken with all your heart. If there something specific you have in mind you feel might be of help to us, please feel free. Those of you that truly know us know it is not in our nature to ask for help. However we do know we have an army of friends and family who love us and are there to support us if we asked.

All proceeds will go to Jaken for renting a place in PA and to his medical cost.
