Jakob Burgess Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Dear Family, Friends, and Neighbors,
I am Jakob Burgess, a Life Scout with Troop 39 Halifax, MA. I am currently working towards achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America. One of the requirements to earn the rank of Eagle include demonstrating leadership skills through a service project that will benefit my community.
I began scouting in 2010 as a cub scout from Pack 239 which still meets today. I completed my Arrow of Light Award (Cub Scouts highest award) in 2013 and crossed over to Boy Scouts the same year. I am also a member of the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts National Honor Society and I am the Senior Patrol Leader for my Troop.
For my Eagle Scout service project, I am refurbishing the Margaret Meyers Amphitheater located on the lawn between the Holmes Public Library and the HOPS Playground in my hometown of Halifax. Margaret Meyer is a beloved retired kindergarten teacher from Halifax Elementary School who is widely recognized in the community. One of the things she enjoyed the most was reading with her class outside. Many years ago as a Thank You for Ms. Meyers, the community of Halifax built and dedicated an outdoor Amphitheater.
Scouts are encouraged to seek donations from the community. Any contribution you would be able to make would be most appreciated. The donations I am seeking will cover the cost for materials and supplies needed to rebuild nine benches and large stage area with a railing. My plan includes composite decking boards, composite railings, pressure treated lumber, decking screws, and sponsor plaques. Other supplies needed will be water and snacks for volunteers assisting on the build.
My goal is to collect donations by May 1st with a target to complete the rebuild by June. Any family or company willing to donate $175 for one of the nine benches will receive a plaque on their sponsored bench. A sample is provided with the photos.
Thank you for helping make my Eagle Project a reality!
