Jamaica Deaf Studies Missions Trip
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chloe Classen! I am a sophomore at Lee University, majoring in Psychology with a hope to minor in deaf studies. I have spent the past school year studying sign language, and will continue to study in preparation for this trip; taking three sign language classes simultaneously and participating in the sign language club at Lee. I am so passionate about this cause! Did you know only 3% of the deaf community ever hear about Jesus? My goal is to apply my knowledge from this deaf studies missions trip to my career in neuropsychology. I hope to provide direct care to people who depend on sign language as a first language, without an interpreter, for better care! This missions trip will train me to be capable of doing that. In this missions trip I will not only be interacting with the deaf community, but I will get to help the children at the elementary school in the deaf village, participate in deaf church services, and help build and repair structures, side walks, and more! I will also have the opportunity to visit the luminescent waters in Montego Bay, where one of the schools is located. This missions trip does double as 7 credits towards a minor in deaf studies, giving me the opportunity to minor that I wouldn’t get otherwise! The funds will go towards the fees of the class we are required to take, as well as my flight, boarding, meals that my school organizes for us, and materials for our missions work. I’m so excited for the opportunity and appreciate every bit of help achieving my goal of reaching out to the deaf community, not only in Jamaica, but in the United States as well:)
