James A. Moore - The Hits Keep Coming

We shouldn't be here again. It's painful and tragic and awkward. But here we are, anyway. Many of you know about the endless string of hideous luck that our friend, author James A. Moore, has faced over the past three years. Cancer that nearly killed him, chemo and radiation that burned out his salivary glands, making it incredibly difficult to eat and causing him to lose most of his teeth, a landlord who sold the house out from under him and his wife Tessa, giving them 45 days to move, Tessa's near-death from Covid after six weeks on a ventilator, Jim's two foot surgeries that left him unable to work for many weeks each time. At some point, you would think all of this would stop. But, no. Most of you aren't aware of the reason for Jim's two foot surgeries--neuropathy in his extremities so severe that he has no feeling at all in his feet. A simple cut, gone unnoticed and unfelt, quickly becomes an infection. These things cost him two toes in previous surgeries...and today, if his heart can handle it, the surgeons will amputate his left foot--the one that was okay before. The infection is so bad there now that they have no other choice. Even before this news, circumstances were dire, but now they are at wit's end. There will be time and many costs involved, but this GoFundMe is really meant only as a bridge to help Jim get to wherever they will end up next. It's hard to fathom how anyone could endure a string of events like this, but Jim endures.
