Chief Jim Allen - Carthage Township Volunteer FD
Donation protected
It’s no secret that my father gave his heart and soul to whatever fire department he was on at the time. As a kid, I remember when those tones would drop, he was on every run, he was at every call, he was a part of every training. If I know anything about my dad, it’s that he loved serving his community and I believe that started in 1972 when he joined the Army, there he served 25 years. Sergeant James Allen, front line medic. Once he came home, the serving didn’t stop, he knew what he loved to do so he continued to serve with the Coolville Volunteer Fire Department. There, he volunteered his time along side his father (Otis Allen) and later on, his son (Jameson Allen).
Fast forward to 2018, Jim had to have an emergency surgery resulting in the amputation of his lower leg. At the time, he was a full time janitor with Federal Hocking Local Schools. He loved the connection he had with each and every teacher, even sometimes would play tricks on them. But the connection he loved the most was with the students. Hearing them down the hall “Mr. Jim! Mr. Jim!” It was enough to melt your heart. All of this came to a halt when he had his surgery and was forced into retirement.
But did this stop him, no it didn’t. It was then that he received the offer to be the chief of Carthage Township Fire Department. The glow that was in his eyes was unforgettable. The amount of plans and ideas that he had for the township was incredible. The determination and drive was so strong. His son (Jameson Allen) was right by his side yet again and they worked day in and day out. Carthage Township Fire Department became my father’s pride and joy.
So I ask, in lieu of flowers, we as a family would like to ask for donations to the Carthage Township Fire Department to be made. Our father would give anything and everything to this department so any support we receive, we are incredibly thankful for. 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Carthage Township Fire Department the evening of January 13th. Any amount is welcome, it’s the thought behind it that is worth the most to us. Your contribution will make a tangible and lasting impact on the Fire Department.
Thank you so much for caring about my father. I know he was a very welcoming gentleman that never knew a stranger. He will be forever missed. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, Jan 13, 2024, at the Coolville United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.
