James Daley Athletic Memorial Fund

Mr. Daley, Coach Daley, Jimmy; whatever name you called him by, if you knew him, you knew that he found a great sense of pride being an integral part of the Whitman Hanson Panther Family. An alumni of WH, Jimmy went on to teach history and have an impressive coaching career there. His legacy of over 500 wins as the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach is superseded by the relationships he made with his students, players, other coaches, and parents. He didn’t just develop players, he developed character, integrity, and resiliency. In fact, even some of the last conversations he had with his wife, Maureen, were about coaching. A couple of weeks before he passed, he heard a sneaker squeak in the hallway of the hospital and yelled out…”No traveling!” He was truly a coach until the very end.
Jimmy ended his career as Athletic Director and he believed in every student athlete representing Whitman Hanson with pride. For many years, students at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School have had to pay significant “user fees” in order to join an athletic team. During his tenure as AD, Jimmy always worked hard to help students and their families find creative ways to pay the user fees. He strongly felt that no student should be sidelined because of financial hardships.
In Jimmy’s memory, Maureen, Conor, Kate, and Brendan have established the James Daley Athletic Memorial Fund. The goal of the fund is to aid student athletes that struggle to pay the user fees. We hope this small act of kindness in Jimmy’s memory will continue his legacy as a Whitman-Hanson Panther for years to come. Any contribution in his name is greatly appreciated, not only by the family, but by the students that will be the recipients of your generosity.
