James & Doris Need A Little Help

My name is James Rogers and my mother Doris and I need a little help.

She is a retired public school English teacher who has dedicated her life to helping children. I am also a teacher who will be looking to work from home as I care for her.

This past Memorial Day, Doris suffered a massive stroke. She was in ICU for more than two weeks. As a result of the brain damage from the stroke, she has aphasia which is the loss of ability to understand or express speech. She also has some cognitive impairment.

She is starting to walk on her own and also eating on her own without the feeding tube but will need physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for a long time.

After considering my Mother's plight I've decided that the best thing for her is to bring her up here to Salem, MA to stay with me so that I can provide her with the daily care that she needs.

This all will involve changes to my daily life and create expenses, some of which can be planned for, and many that can't. Included in those expenses will be "out of pocket" medical expenses, food, rent, transportation and utilities etc...

My mother and I greatly appreciate any help that you can provide as we begin this journey together.
