Hello, thank you for stopping by to learn about our neighbourhood alley art project!

We are raising money to complete the second butterfly mural in our alleyway (pictured) to help beautify the corridor and bring attention to the significance of the monarch butterfly, which sadly, is now endangered.

As a pollinator and a food source for animals, such as the praying mantis, the monarch plays a vital role in our intricate web of life. It’s considered an “indicator species” because of its sensitivity to subtle changes in climate as well as the presence of harmful chemicals. The health of the monarch population can tell us a lot about the general health of our environment.

We were inspired to fill our alleyway with monarch art to highlight the significance of this beautiful insect and to bring attention to small and meaningful ways individuals and neighbourhoods can contribute to its health and recovery.

“Cumulatively small decisions, choices, actions, make a very big difference” – Jane Goodall

Our alley art project was inspired by what was once a single pollinator garden and has now blossomed into 11 certified Monarch Waystations  in our neighbourhood. Having a series of these gardens within a certain geographical area acts like a butterfly highway - offering food, rest stops, and breeding grounds as they pass through. We are now one garden away from being recognized as a Butterflyway  by the David Suzuki foundation.

We hope that these vibrant murals, in addition to bringing beauty to our little corner of Windsor, Ontario, inspire others to get their hands dirty and plant some milkweed!

Art Attack Windsor is a project created to brighten up outdoor spaces through the usage of murals and installations.  By working carefully with artists, local organizations, and business owners Art Attack Windsor helps facilitate gorgeously uplifting pieces of art for the entire community to enjoy.

This project was started by local art-activist Jill Thompson returned to Windsor with her young daughter after living in Toronto’s Parkdale/Queen-West area for several years. Upon returning to Windsor, Thompson noticed a quite a few areas of the City that looked dull and drab so she solicited the help of local street artist Athena and was able to crowdfund enough money to commission 2 bold and bright murals in the downtown area.

It has been 6 years and roughly 30 murals since Art Attack Windsor was formed and with the help of the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative and generous donations from Downtown Windsor Resident’s Association, DULUX Paints, an ACHF award and the community.

Art attack Windsor is a huge fan of Lindsay and hopes this project give her the proper exposure she deserves in the street art community.
