James Floyd’s Fight Against Spina Bifida
Donation protected
My name is Michelle Peterson, and in March of this year, our daughter Jessica Nye and her husband Jay were given news that changed their celebration of a baby boy coming in August to the harsh reality that this precious little boy would start his life with a tremendous battle. After several genetic tests, ultrasounds, and a fetal MRI our precious grandson James Floyd was diagnosed with Spina Bifida in Jessica’s 21st week of pregnancy.
After meeting with the neurosurgeon we were given the heartbreaking news that James Floyd’s diagnosis was Myelomeningocele, the most severe type of Spina Bifida. James Floyd’s spine is open in the area located between the 5th Lumbar vertebrae and the 2nd Sacral vertebrae (L4-S2) and the MRI also shows that he has severe Hydrocephalus (excess of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain), and a Chiari II malformation (positioning of the brain into the upper spinal column). Although we hope and pray for a good outcome we are well aware of the physical and possible mental challenges that James Floyd will face. James Floyd will need to have surgery to repair and close his spine the day he is born and at least one additional surgery to place a shunt to drain the excess cerebral spinal fluid from his brain.
This page has been set up to help Jessica and Jay Nye as they navigate through this difficult time while wanting to provide James Floyd with the best possible outcome and start to his precious life. Jay is a hardworking father and Jessica works from home to provide for their two children Jonathan and Journey Marie. However, at a time when they are struggling to wrap their minds on how they can best provide for James Floyd, they have already gotten notices from the insurance company on what will and will not be covered regarding specialty treatment. This page will help to pay for the extensive medical care needed for James Floyd which includes numerous Ultrasounds, MRI’s, additional testing, at least two surgeries, and an extended stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
We are thankful for anything you can give to help James Floyd and we can not begin to thank you for your generosity, kindness, love, and support. James Floyd may arrive as early as the end of May dependent on the stableness of the Hydrocephalus. Please know that all your donations will go to help provide for our precious James Floyd and help raise awareness for those who have been diagnosed with Spina Bifida!
