Franklin Woods - Son
When it comes to my dad, my greatest memory of him was his heart. He was born with a heart defect; the aortic valve did not fully develop and it gave him a unique heart beat. My fondest memory as a young child was laying on his chest and listening to his heart. There was a sense of safety and security while in my father arms.
In 2010 this unique heart beat would be replaced with a mechanical tick. My father was facing a serious health problem that required open heart surgery and the replacement of his aortic valve. On a normal day, in a quiet place you could hear the tick of this heart. Not only did my father have a memorable heart beat, the way he cared for others was unique as well. He never sought attention or fame. He focused his energy on helping others. He would lend a helping hand or offer support by just lending a listening ear. My father poured his heart into everything he did. If he was going to do something, he was going to do it the right way. This was shown in the praise my father received in the quality of his work, his hard-work and dedication to provide for his family, and his open policy to offer a helping hand no matter the circumstances.
Early in the morning of March 6, my father's heart ceased to physically beat. His character will live on however. For the way he cared for others will never for forgotten. Even in the quietest of place's I will stay hear my father's heartbeat as the lessons he taught me will always be with me.
Stevi Stephens - Daughter
My dad was usually seen wearing his white new balance shoes and overalls. Usually this was paired with a fishing pole when he got the chance. If I were to describe the ultimate dad ensemble that would be it. The overalls of a hard-working man stained with fish blood, glue and grease from helping someone fix their car. White new balance shoes, the epitome of dad shoes. If you Google "dad shoes," those are the ones you'll find. You could always tell how busy he was and how hard he was working by the condition his shoes were in. And the most important piece, his fishing pole. My husband and my father bonded over their love for fishing. I believe this is when my father may have started liking him more than me but some of my best memories is with my dad and Michael and the times we fished together. I cherish those memories.
My dad soon became the ultimate father for Michael. He did, like he had done for others, he became a confidant, a friend, someone who without a second thought, help you with whatever you needed help with and without asking or expecting anything in return. He was there to listen and when the opportunity presented itself, make you laugh. They say you marry your father and I think in some ways I may have and I'm okay with that because I know our daughters will grow up feeling like I do about mine. That I had the best dad that a girl could have. I'm just sorry that his grand daughters didn't get to have more time with him and get to know him like we did.
Michael Patton - Best Friend
What can I say about Frank Woods. He was a Family man, hardworking, caring, and my best friend. He was always there for anyone he knew no matter what their problems were. He was just a wonderful human being. He loved his family more than anything in this world and would do anything for them. He spent sometimes weeks away to provide for his wife and (3) children. He was a great husband, excellent father, and the best Pawpaw any child could ask for.
Being the sole provider for his family and life being unpredictable we are asking for everyone to come together to help this amazing family through this difficult time. At the end of this month I will attempt to finish the Georgia Death Race and Hellbender 100 ultra-marathons in 6 days. This will be dedicated in his memory and raise money for his family. I am going to attempt to raise enough money for funeral expenses and money for his family.
