James Joshua Mason

My siblings and I are hoping to help our brother with his medical and living expenses during this difficult time. Some of you know him as James and some call him Josh, either way - he needs us all! In January, he came down with the flu and tried to fight it but ended up in the hospital on Jan 29th 2024 with a bad case of pneumonia. After starting strong IV antibiotics, the doctors felt he was safe to go home and heal with the antibiotics and an oxygen tank. A few days later, James/Josh was readmitted because of fluid build up in the majority of his left lung and around his heart. He had to have a tube surgically placed thru his back to drain the fluid. A few years ago, James/ Josh had a renal clot (blood clot in his kidney) and has been on blood thinners since. In order to perform the tube surgery to drain the fluid, they had to take him off of the blood thinners. On Feb 28th James/ Josh went home to rest and heal. Within 36 hours, his roommate called 911 and James/ Josh was readmitted by ambulance due to suffering a big stroke to the left temporal portion of his brain. It was too deep to do surgery and he was outside of the window for the stroke reversal medicine. He is lucky to be alive today and is beating the odds! He is now at the acute inpatient stroke rehab center in Littleton, CO, Encompass, and working hard everyday hoping to return home soon. Since James/ Josh was admitted he has been unable to work. We are unsure when he will be able to return to work and has a very long road of speech and occupational therapy ahead. The speech seems to be the biggest obstacle but we are hopeful that he will make new neuro connections and learn to communicate well again.
