Today we mourn the loss of our brother, son, cousin, uncle, and friend James Lacey. Jim died when the fishing boat he worked on capsized in the waters off the Oregon coast. (Full story.)
We always knew Jim had one of the hardest jobs in the world and he wouldn't have it any other way. He spent most of his life working the oceans in all kinds of weather, and often said he'd seen the worst of this planet while fishing, but also the most glorious moments: sunrise, calm winds, sunsets, and nights with more stars in the sky that you could imagine.
Underneath Jim's rough exterior was a heart of gold. He battled many personal demons, but his strong faith in God and man, and his love of fishing and the ocean, carried him through some of the darkest times life can offer. Through it all, he never lost his sense of humor, his gift of storytelling, and his love for family and friends.
We're raising money to help return his remains to the east coast so that he can be laid to rest. Any additional funds raised will go to support charitable causes that support the families of fisherman lost at sea.
Thank you for your generosity, your thoughts, and your prayers. May he rest in peace.
