James Palmer Memorial EMT Paramedic Scholarship

Hello, my name is Bobbi Jo Palmer. I'm establishing an EMT/Paramedic Scholarship in honor of my late husband, Jim Palmer. We met when I was a new paramedic, and he was a firefighter with the City of Milpitas. I loved my career as a paramedic, but it was a hard road to afford paramedic school, and it's even more costly now. The scholarship will be awarded to local students who desires to help others as a paramedic in the private or public sector. My experience as a paramedic made me a better person, and I continue to use that knowledge to care for my family and friends. During our 35-year relationship, we continued to stay connected to the lifelong friends we made in our careers in EMS. I hope to raise $20,000 in scholarship funds to support a few individuals to complete their dream of paramedic school, which will include a mentor and tutoring support. The first scholarship will be awarded to a Santa Cruz County resident. Jim and I lived in the Watsonville/Corralitos area for 16 years while we raised our girls and have the best memories. We have a group of friends who worked in the EMS field that will volunteer as mentors and assist in the selection process. The funds will be awarded through a non-profit of our choice and paid directly to the paramedic training program.
