James served the Elmhurst Youth Baseball league for over 14 years, first coaching in Tee-Ball and moving up to the Minor and Major League levels. He served on the Board of Directors since November 2010. James was incredibly generous to the league giving so much of his time to the league and the children it serves. James continued serving even after his children graduated from the program.
Of James, one coach wrote: "Coach James’ concentration on having fun in a family-like environment gave his coaching more than just teaching the game of baseball. He taught the game of life as well."
A fellow board member wrote: "James' coaching style was to know each player and really teach them to help them find their talent and strengths even before the player knew what they were." Another wrote, "We are all better people for having known James Wilson". A third comment read, "(he) was taken way too soon. His laughter and eye rolls will certainly be missed."
His booming voice will be forever missed at Fargnoli Park by all who had great pleasure to play under his tutelage or coach alongside him. As big as James’ voice could be, his heart far surpassed it. James and Diann's love wasn't restricted to baseball. They raised three beautiful children: their natural son, Xavier as well as Destiny and Oscar added through adoption.
James and Diann also donated time to the Northend Outreach / Chad Brown Alumni Alliance helping organize the recent reunion and supporting causes with that organization.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the James Wilson Memorial Fund for Elmhurst Youth Baseball
