James Funeral/Medical Bills
Donation protected
James Martinez was a husband, father of two, grandfather of two, uncle, son, brother, and much more to many people.
His journey of illness began about twenty years ago when he discovered that he had liver failure. When he received a liver transplant twelve years ago, we had no idea that this was just the beginning of his suffering. Since then James developed diabetes, severe osteoporosis, parkinson's disease, and kidney failure which required dialysis three times a week.
The parkinson’s and loss of muscle caused him to fall many times, which in turn had him break his left hip, left femur, right shoulder and left collarbone. Near the end of his life he was wheelchair bound, had no use of either arm, and the doctors were considering amputation of his right arm because the osteoporosis made his bones similar to a sponge. James was in constant pain. We are heartbroken that he is gone, but relieved that he is finally at peace.

However, the life of a caretaker is extremely overwhelming. Claribel, his wife, was taking on full responsibilities of his care while working full time. Things went unnoticed. Letters were never opened. One of these letters was a notice that James Martinez’s life insurance was going to lapse.
James died peacefully on Monday, November 23rd. When his children started to handle the necessary arrangements, they discovered that the life insurance had lapsed over the summer and the $75K policy was nulled. They discovered this one hour after his body was removed from the home. To say that they were in shock is an understatement.
The medical bills and funeral costs are more than the family can currently handle at this point. They were counting on the life insurance to take care of these things. Now that James is at peace, the family was also hoping for peace. However, that is not the case. We are asking for donations to be able to lay him to rest properly and pay all outstanding medical bills. We truly believe that any little bit helps! We also ask for all prayers, good thoughts, and any love that you can throw our way.
Thank you!
-Claribel (his wife), Mariela (his daughter), and Jaime (his son)

This is what is on the back of his prayer card for his funeral.
God saw he was getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around him
And whispered, “Come with Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer
And saw him fade away,
Although we loved him dearly
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
