Jameson's Brachial Plexus Road to Recovery

Donation protected
For those that know, my grandson Jameson Ludden was born this year on May 9th with a brachial plexus injury. His injury causes him to have minimal movement in his right arm. I am helping raise money to help with past and future medical bills, travel expenses, unpaid time away from work, as well as food and lodging in the coming months while my daughter and son-in-law (Kristen and Del) will be traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio for a surgery for Jameson. The Full Story: Jameson Drew Ludden was born on May 9th, 2020. His birth was extremely traumatic and he was flown to the University of Iowa NICU. From the beginning, Jameson was having a hard time descending into the birth canal because his head was stuck behind the pelvic bone. After hours of labor, they ended up having to use a vacuum to pull him out, but was unsuccessful when his shoulder became stuck. This is defined as shoulder dystocia. The doctor called a code pink for all available medical staff and made several attempts to release Jameson’s shoulder. He tried twice to pull Jameson’s arm out but had no luck. He then had a nurse push down on Kristen’s stomach to work to release Jameson’s shoulder, when that didn’t work the doctor tried to push him back up so Kristen could be rushed to an emergency c section. After all unsuccessful attempts, he turned Jameson a full 180 degrees to twist him out of the birth canal which finally released his shoulder. By that time it had been a total of 8 minutes to release Jameson, and he went an additional 3 minutes without oxygen while he was receiving CPR. He has been diagnosed with a condition called HIE because of the estimated 11 minutes he went without oxygen. This also caused him to have 4 small lesions in his brain, which in the future could show up as learning delays in his development. Jameson was flown to the Iowa City Children’s Hospital to receive a cooling treatment to help slow the damage and swelling in his brain. The cooling treatment was successful, but after his body was slowly warming up, Jameson had 2 seizures. He was then placed on a medication to prevent any further seizures. During the month that Jameson was recovering in the Children’s Hospital, Kristen and Del were living out of a hotel in Iowa City so they could be close to their baby boy. Since Jameson has been discharged, they have had several trips back and forth to Iowa city for follow ups with orthopedics and neurology. At this point in time, it is recommended for Jameson to see specialists in the Cincinatti Ohio Brachial Plexus clinic to receive a micro surgery. The surgery is to reconstruct the damaged nerves that are preventing him from moving his arm. We don’t know how many trips they will need to take from Iowa to Ohio, but we do know that the first trip will be at least a 5 day stay, which is scheduled in the later part of December. After that, there will be a follow up within 4 weeks after the surgery and we will update with further information. We know that God has a big plan for Jameson after all the miracles that we have seen so far. With your prayers and support, we believe that Jameson will be on the road to a successful recovery. I know this has been a tough year for everybody, and we greatly appreciate every single person who is willing and able to help in any way possible.
