James's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Ashley and this is our story .
My partner, James, fell ill on 18th October this year with what we thought was flu. After seeing the GP, he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital via ambulance and after several scans and tests it he was diagnosed with a strain of sepsis. Sepsis is when the immune system fighting an infection, turns on itself and starts to attack and destroy the body's own organs. Even in it's mildest form, there is a 30% mortality rate and around 66000 people die every year in the UK.

James was placed in intensive care and on a ventilator for 2 weeks before being moved to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, a specialist in intensive care. While he is improving daily, due to the severity of his illness, James underwent a double lower leg amputation at the beginning of November. As you can imagine, this is a major blow to an active young man who enjoys cycling, running and playing football with his children.

James will spend at least a further 3 months in hospital in the intensive care and burns unit. He is desperate to get back onto his feet again so we are looking for help to raise the funds to enable us to buy the prosthetic equipment he needs to do this.  The legs are expensive and we are not sure if or when James will be able to return to his current job. His main goal is to be able to get back on his bike and play football with his children again.  With your help, hopefully we can make this happen.

If you know James, you know he is a fighter and he is determined to do all the things he did before his amputation. He is still battling with his hands and the rest of his body but he is strong and remains confident he may be able to spend a few days at home with us all for Christmas.

Your help would be much appreciated and any donations well received - please find it in your heart to help James on his journey.

It is our intention, in the future and when James is able to, to take part in charity events and fundraise to help other people going through stories like James'.

Thanks for taking the time to read James' story and making your donation however small. Every little will help James on his road to recovery and we will forever be in your debt.
Thank you, Ashley, Faith, Lennie & Harry xxxx
