James Zhang Memorial Fund

As many of you know, we recently lost our beloved James, who brought light and love to everyone he encountered. In his memory, we are launching the James Zhang Memorial Fund.

James was a beacon of positivity, joy, and compassion, and we want to honor his legacy by creating a special memorial project in his name. While we are still finalizing the details of the memorial project, we know that it will be a place where family and friends can gather to remember James and to celebrate his remarkable life.

Please note that all donations made to the James Zhang Memorial Fund will be exclusively allocated to the creation of the memorial project. None of the funds will be used to defer any costs incurred by the family.

Your generous contributions will help us create a lasting tribute to James’ memory. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful impact.

We will keep you updated as plans for the memorial project progress. In the meantime, we are grateful for your support and kindness during this difficult time.

James Zhang Obituary

With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of James Wu Zhang, our beloved son, brother, family member, and friend on Monday, February 5th, 2024, at the young age of 26. He was the loving son of Chunshan Andy Zhang (Father) and Yuping Connie Wu (Mother), and a cherished brother to Lucy Zhang and Sam Oke.

James embodied a combination of brilliance and humility that is incredibly rare in this world. He was a beacon of light to everyone he encountered during his short but impactful life on earth, and his absence will be deeply felt.

James grew up as an active member of the Chinese Baptist Church at Forest Hills, where his parents were founding members. At the age of 12, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized shortly thereafter. James loved the Lord and we take comfort in knowing that he now rests peacefully in the eternal presence of the Almighty.

James' enthusiasm for life was infectious, and his zest for living positively impacted everyone he met. He possessed an incredible sense of humor and had a talent for bringing people together with his genuine interest in others. James' kind heart, vibrant spirit, and humble nature endeared him to all who knew him. A lifelong learner and a repository of knowledge, James delighted in spreading joy through laughter, witty charm, dancing, singing, storytelling, and delivering memorable speeches. His ability to illuminate any room with his sincerity and warmth will be sorely missed.

From a young age, James demonstrated a curiosity and passion for learning that continued to blossom throughout his life. Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, he graduated from Enloe High School in 2015 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2018 where he majored in Cognitive Science with a focus on Data Science, AI/ML, and Philosophy. During his time at Berkeley, James distinguished himself as a Stokes Scholar with the National Security Agency. Following graduation, he relocated to Maryland to work at the NSA in project management, systems engineering, and data analytics. He furthered his education by completing a Master's in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2020. James served as the Director of the Stokes Scholarship Program Peer Advisory Board from 2020-2023. Most recently, he proudly attained his Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).

In addition to his professional endeavors, James found immense joy in spending quality time with loved ones, embarking on adventures to new destinations, relishing diverse culinary experiences, and immersing himself in vibrant cities renowned for their exceptional public transportation systems. A true music enthusiast, James delighted in attending live concerts and showcasing his musical talents through playing the clarinet and saxophone. He also cherished engaging in sports activities such as tennis, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, and, more recently, basketball. His newfound passion for running led him to pursue marathon training, culminating in the accomplishment of a 22-mile run. Notably, James held a special affinity for the New York Jets, a team he enthusiastically supported and commiserated over with anyone who happened to notice him wearing his favorite Jets hat.

James was not only an exceptional son and brother but also a selfless friend who radiated joy and compassion. He left an indelible impression on so many with his sincerity, affection, and unwavering willingness to help others before himself. His magnetic charisma, captivating spirit, and positive energy will be profoundly missed.
