Thank you for visiting our page today. We put this campaign together in an effort to share a personal story about our mother, Janice Williams and her 10 year-long battle with cancer.
Janice was a hard-working single mother of two, a denmother to several (you know who you are) --- and a dear friend and dedicated co-worker to many for more than 25 years of her life. I apologize for the extensive pronoun usage above, but there just aren't enough of them to describe her accurately. She was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the lung in 2006. After a lobectomy and chemotherapy treatment, she began a 2 year recovery process that showed much hope. She never missed work while she was going through chemo and she purposely set her appointments around her two jobs. Meanwhile PET and CT scans were not performed on her as part of her routine follow up checks. In 2009 while working her night job at Daffy's in East Hanover, Janice suffered a mini-stroke. Shortly thereafter we learned the cancer had metastasized to her brain resulting in 2 additional tumors. Emergency surgery followed with additional chemotherapy and brain radiation treatments.
As she continues this second chapter of her fight, we fast forward to today --- and there remains new challenges to face every day. For those who may know Janice personally from town (East Hanover) or worked with her... she is in good spirits on a day to day basis - to the extent she can be but each month she becomes more cut off from the outside world and all her past relationships. She is still quite feisty however :) and she still appreciates phone calls from old friends or when people can find the time to pay her a visit.
**UPDATE:
As of 2017, the tumors in her brain are gone and according to her doctors, she has defied the odds and statistics of her disease. However the extensive radiation treatments following her brain surgery have taken her eyesight, impaired her hearing, she now suffers from weekly or sometimes daily seizures --- with non-reversible neurological damage.
Though she remains a model cancer patient for the term "fighter"... these complications have unfortunately left Janice severely disabled and blind. Her speech and thought processing have been deeply affected. She can no longer be in the sun - or take a walk outside - or do anything physical or cook for herself, etc... which were all activities she enjoyed and played an integral part of her busy life for decades. Janice will be 70 in July... but she did not have long-term care insurance and her lack of ability to work due to her illness has drained her life-savings.
So many of you have been asking us, "How can I help?" Here's how - Please contribute to Janice's GoFundMe. All proceeds will go to Janice to help make her days a little brighter, her care more accessable and manageable --- and help our family continue fighting this battle with her.
Please pass this along to others and/or consider giving to this cause in your travels. We thank you for your generosity from the bottom of our hearts.
