Jami Bird's Cancer Journey #JamisJourney

Dear friends and family of Jami, Biggs, Hannah and Chase,

This special family needs us to lift them up during a difficult time. Jami is a warrior! She is doing everything she can to fight this battle with cancer. Jami has been in the hospital since July 14, 2022 (over 28 days). She is managing this process with grace and dignity – her faith could move mountains!

Jami was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Another name for metastatic breast cancer is “stage IV (4) breast cancer” since it has already spread beyond the breast and into at least three different bone areas (spine, femur & pelvis). Jami has had one reparative surgery on her spinal column where cancer has eaten away multiple cervical and thoracic vertebrae. The doctors are trying to manage her pain and help her become mobile again. Throughout all of this, Jami has remained strong and positive. We are in awe of her brave spirit! Jami will begin radiation and then move to a treatment plan which will include systematic chemotherapy.

Jami and Biggs have been married for 20 years. They both graduated from Texas Tech University (Guns Up!) and made their home in Fort Worth. Jami is an educator and teaches at Starrett Elementary School in Grand Prairie. They have two exceptional children: Chase, a sophomore in high school and Hannah, a new freshman attending Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Biggs will be moving Hannah into her dorm in one week. We ask for prayers to help this transition go smoothly for Hannah and the family.

Many of you have asked over the past few weeks how you can help. The family continues to ask for your prayers and positive vibes – we believe in the power of prayer and miracles. We know their medical bills will be significant, as will the treatments, therapy, and other expenses. Humbly they were hesitant to ask for financial help. They do not want anyone they love to feel obligated. Through encouragement from friends, they have agreed to a fundraising effort. Let’s come together to uplift this financial burden, allowing their focus to be on creating joyful memories. Any amount is helpful beyond measure and deeply appreciated.

We will continue to use this page to provide updates on Jami’s status. Also, feel free to leave comments on this site, as Jami and Biggs will both see them.
