Jamie & Eddie are getting top surgery

Hey pals,
So as you may know if you know either of us, Eddie and Jamie are both getting top surgery. Something you may not know, is that we accidentally without discussing it until a few months after booking, happen to be getting top surgery from the same surgeon in Warsaw, Poland on the same day… (15th of July this year) He’s literally going to take a lunch break between us. The universe is mad. So we’ve booked a shared AirBnb, got a few pals to agree to come along and take care of us, and have started saving our pennies as best we can.
If you know either of us personally, you’ll know how much of a big deal top surgery is. It’s life changing. It means being able to do the things we love, that make us who we are, without feeling like someone we’re not. Running. Swimming. Being at home. It means freedom, it means autonomy and it means our bodies being in line with who we are in a way we’ve never been able to experience before.
Trans healthcare can be complicated and expensive to access, with years of your life spent jumping through hoops and thousands of pounds spent on consultations, hormones and surgeries. If you wait for the NHS you could be looking at sitting around on lists for 4+ years.
Thankfully, the surgeon we have chosen is a bit cheaper than UK surgeons, and has really good results. It's looking to work out at just under £4k each including surgery, flights, blood tests and accommodation etc (we have to stay in Warsaw for two weeks after surgery).
It’s not fun asking for money, but an economically tough year has meant we haven’t been able to save as much as we’d hoped. The idea of not being able to get this surgery due to finances is absolutely terrifying, so we thought we’d open it up. We’re not asking anyone to contribute outside of their means. A lot of people have faced pay cuts and job losses. All we’re asking is… if you can afford it, please consider donating any amount towards this life changing treatment.
If we end up raising anything above what we personally need, it’ll all be going to the We Exist Trans Healthcare Fund to help others like us.
We’re going to be doing a bunch of things to help raise money, probably including activities like running quite far and art sales / auctions, so keep an eye out for them. But in the mean time, thank you so much for reading, sharing, caring and donating if you can!
