Help Jamie Roux recover from hemipelvectomy

Hi, our names are Carly and Alayna. We are fundraising to help support Jamie's recovery from a life-altering surgery she will undergo in a few short weeks. Jamie had surgical treatment for what we thought was myositis ostificans (bone forming inside the muscle causing tumor formation) in February of 2020. Unfortunately, she had numerous surgical complications. She needed a second surgery the next day, massive blood transfusions, and needed to go to acute rehabilitation to recover enough to go home safely. She continued to suffer ongoing complications and needed a procedure to stop bleeding, radiation therapy, and another surgery in November of 2020 to remove more of the tumor.

More recently, Jamie was notified by her surgeon that they tested tissue samples from her original surgery two years ago and found Paraosteal osteosarcoma (cancer in the bone). It is extremely rare to have paraosteal osteosarcoma in the pelvic area and is typically found in the knee and long bones. Jamie has seen multiple specialists; unfortunately, she is not a candidate for radiation or chemotherapy. The best treatment for Jamie's cancer is a hemipelvectomy which is the complete amputation of her right leg, including a portion of her right pelvis.

Obviously, with this surgery, Jamie and her family will be financially impacted. Jamie is an Emergency Room Nurse and will be out of work for an extended and unknown period of time. Jamie's husband Todd is also out of work recovering from an injury that required surgery, and he will need to take more time away from work to help support Jamie's initial recovery. Jamie's home will need to be modified to be handicap accessible while she recovers. She will need to purchase a handicap accessible vehicle, pay medical expenses not covered by insurance, and most important purchase a custom made prostetic.

Jamie is a wonderful person who has dedicated her life to helping others in their time of need. She needs the support of her friends and family while she goes through a very difficult time adjusting to life with an amputation.
