Apartment building burned down, now homeless
Donation protected
Hello everyone. On Monday August 8th, Jamie and mine's apartment building caught fire on the first floor, on Grant Street in Portland. After watching our building burn for about three hours, at 11pm our property management finally put us in an hotel for the night because no one was allowed back inside. As of yesterday morning,we were informed by our landlord that the building is permanently shut down as of now, they were terminating our lease immediately, and after being given our deposit back, were told we were homeless. Thankfully we are ok, and our stuff is ok....but we emotionally and financially are not. Red cross has been able to give us some aid for a hotel room for a few nights, but as of now we are looking at having to stay with a friend about an hour away. Jamie is about to start her final year as a Biology major at USM before her Grad school starts, and we are currently without a car, so we are scrambling to get that situated. I just got illegally fired from my current executive chef job when I just hurt my back, and was out on worker's comp, so I am currently jobless as well, and financially we are in a very grave situation, along with being homeless in one of the worst housing crisis's in America. Any financial assistance would be so greatly appreciated from us; we are scared, angry, and exhausted, and after watching our home burn down...feeling very powerless.
~Love and thanks-Dale
