Jamil Hawes Memorial Fund

My precious, “Big Teddy Bear,” Jamil Alexander Hawes died in a tragic motorcycle accident on May 8th, 2023. He leaves behind his wife of one year, Courtney, and the light of his life, his 7 year-old son Mahki.

Jamil was a student and stand-out athlete at Asheville High School. He loved sports, his many friends, but most of all, his family and God. Jamil was a lover of life. He was funny and determined, but most of all, he always had a smile on his face. His sister, Keisha, was his role model and number one fan. He became a police officer to follow in her footsteps, and most of all, to help make changes for those in need.

Courtney and Mahki have a long road ahead of them due to this sudden loss. We have started this GoFundMe account in support of their needs. The unexpected death of Jamil has left Courtney and Kai with a tremendous sense of loss and sadness. In addition, comes the reality of many new financial burdens and obligations.

Jamil was Courtney's financial provider due to her medical needs as a heart transplant recipient. Mahki has a long road ahead growing up without his amazing father. This GoFundMe page will help relieve some of the burdens that they will face now and in the future.
