Hi, my name is Troy and I want to tell you about my amazing brother Bryan and his girlfriend Margie Delich and the phone call they received this morning while in Wakeeney, KS that turned their American dream and hardwork into sadness and tragedy.
A few years ago Bryan bought some land in Amsterdam, MO. He worked everyday on the home while working a full time job, with not a lot of money, but great ideas, sweat and a great vision using recycled items, scrap wood and items from Craigslist. Things you and I would throw away, Bryan would find a use for. Bryan would post his progress on the cabin and different projects on Facebook. It was exciting and I looked forward to seeing it. It was obvious the pride and joy it gave him.
Bryan and Margie also have a love for animals. On their land, they have 3 goats, 7 ducks, 3 cats, a dog and some free range chickens.
This morning, 4.5 hours away, while our family was celebrating Thanksgiving and an early Christmas, tears rolled down Margie's face. They were quiet at first, but they couldn't hide it any longer. I asked what was wrong, and when Margie said, "Our cabin is gone..." and my heart just melted.
Earlier, they'd gotten a phone call from the sheriff department. A fire had destroyed their home, it was to late--everything they had worked so hard to build, the pride they took in building it over the last few years--gone, just like that.
Thank goodness they were not home and the animals are safe. But they have nowhere to live and all of their belongings were inside the house. The only thing that is left is the metal you see above, and more pictures will be taken and posted in the upcoming days. Except for their dog, they are finding temporary homes for the other animals until they can return to the land permanently.
Unfortunately, there is no insurance to cover his home except for the original metal structure, this was something he did, built with his own two hands and was so proud of accomplishing himself. The building had no floor but dirt, so Bryan gave it a wooden one, the outside was tin and uninsulated, so Bryan built walls and a ceiling. He gave it a bathroom and kitchen, and a loft bedroom. Bryan and Margie made a simple metal structure home with a lot of hard work, a little help, and plenty of tips, ideas, and instruction from the internet.
Bryan and Margie will be staying with us, until they can rebuild. They both work full time jobs in Overland Park, but will be making the long drive back to feed the animals and take care of them until homes are found, and to start the cleanup and removal of the debris. They desperately need your help.
We are asking for some assistance and looking for some help in raising funds so Bryan can rebuild his home. Please know that every penny you donate will go directly to Bryan and to funding the rebuilding of his home on his land with the same vison he had before.
Thank you for taking the time to read my brother's story and please share it as much as possible on any social media site you're a part of. Christmas will be hard this year, but our hope is to raise funds quickly so they can start rebuilding and be able to return home to the land and animals so they dearly love.
We are so thankful to have all of you helping Bryan and Margie.
