Jan Kelly Loyd- Lung Transplant Journey
Donation protected
This fundraising effort is for my precious mama, Jan Kelly Loyd, to help enable her to have Lung Transplant surgery at Emory University Hospital. I am Jana Owen, her oldest daughter.
Jan’s Diagnosis:
In November of 2011, mama started noticing shortness of breath and was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin (AAT) Deficiency, a rare lung disease. AAT is a protein that is produced by the liver and ultimately goes to the lungs. Mama’s liver doesn’t produce this protein, therefore over time causing severe damage to her lungs.
Treatment:
There is no cure for Alpha 1. Since diagnosed, she has been having the protein that her liver doesn’t produce put back in her body by having weekly Infusion treatments to try to reduce progression of the disease. Over the last few years, her lung disease has progressed greatly. She struggles to breathe even while on Oxygen 24/7.
She has been undergoing extensive tests the last 6 months at Emory University to get placed on their lung transplant list. Some doctors have said she may have 4-5 years of life left with her diseased lungs, but we know that only our God knows how long we will be here on this Earth. So until then we know that a lung transplant will bring her a prolonged, healthier, more enjoyable life.
As you can imagine, this will be quite an expense for the surgery and even the journey after. She will be required to be no further than 5 miles away from the hospital for 3-6months before she can come home. If you feel led, please join us in donating to help with her medical expenses. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go directly towards her lung transplant
journey. More importantly, please pray for the Lord’s protection over her and for healing over her body. We trust in God’s timing. On behalf of my family, thank you for your support and prayers! ❤️
