Phenomenal Woman
“It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.”
- Maya Angelou
Tragically, our friend and high school classmate, Jana Baldwin Avram, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. She was 54 years young.
Jana leaves behind her loving husband, Sean Avram, and her wonderful twin boys, Max and Dillon Hamrell. She also leaves a wonderful family of siblings: Patrick, Paul, Megan, and Brian, and her mother, Martha. And so many friends.
Jana was a breast cancer survivor and after returning to health she added certification as a "cancer exercise specialist" to her private fitness training practice, Moonbird Mighty.
At MUHS, Jana was a student leader in the classroom and on the field. She served as President of our Class of 1988 and she kept our class anchored for more than 35 years.
Throughout her life Jana always brought out the best in people. She energized every room with her electric smile, her warmth, compassion and enthusiasm.
To honor her memory, we invite you to help establish the Jana Baldwin Avram '88 Scholarship to be awarded annually to a graduating MUHS student who exhibits Jana's quiet strength, leadership skills, and an ability to bring out the best in others.
Funds will be administered through the Vermont Community Foundation in Middlebury, Vermont. The annual scholarship will be 5% of the corpus value and awarded at MUHS graduation.
