JandyStrong 5th Annual HalfMarathon Fundraiser

Welcome to the official Team JandyStrong Chicago Half Marathon Fundraising Page!

September 29, 2019 will be our FIFTH and FINAL year at this event, and we need YOU to help us go out with a bang!!!

(For those wondering, Team JandyStrong will host other exciting events in Fall 2020 and beyond, however, we are considering new options and locations as part of our effort to keep things fresh and broaden our impact in the future.)

Our focus today is on having the best turnout and fundraising success to date at September's 5th annual Chicago Half Marathon.  If you ever thought about running, donating, or getting involved, now's the time to do it!

Last year, Jake used a customized tandem trike – engineered by himself and three other UW-Madison students – to complete the 13.1 mile race along Lake Michigan.  It was another significant milestone in Jake’s recovery and an inspiration to us all.  Jake plans to participate again this year, with sights set on beating last year’s finishing time of 1:57:47.

Over the four years this event has taken place, Team JandyStrong has had more than 200 runners, 50 volunteers, 20 corporate sponsorships, and countless supporters.  A total of over $80,000 has been raised for Jake’s therapy and ongoing medical expenses, in addition to another $42,000 for nonprofit organizations supporting spinal cord injury research – WOW.  We’ve been able to eclipse the $20,000 GoFundMe fundraising goal all 4 years and plan to knock it out of the park one last time!

For those of you who are new to the JandyStrong movement, we are doing this fundraiser to raise money for paralysis research and recovery, and to support our good friend Jake Anderson, as he continues to embark on his long journey of extensive medical care and physical therapy.  This year’s Chicago Half Marathon will take place on September 29, 2019, marking the 5-year anniversary of Jake's accident that resulted in a severe spinal cord injury.

Here is a quick breakdown of exactly where your donation will go:

25% to Unite 2 Fight Paralysis (www.u2fp.org) – TAX DEDUCTIBLE

25% to Get Up Stand Up to Cure Paralysis (www.gusu2cure.org) – TAX DEDUCTIBLE

50% to Jake’s medical needs trust which helps cover the costs of his adaptive fitness, caretaking, medical expenses, travel and equipment – NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE
