Jane Lewis Textile Scholarship

Donation protected
The textile design community is heavy-hearted with the news of the loss of our dear friend and colleague Jane Lewis, who had been living with stage IV lung cancer for several years.

Friends and family, in partnership with Pattern Observer, are honoring her memory and passion for textile design with an ongoing scholarship to students unable to afford Pattern Observer courses (where Jane was teaching). http://patternobserver.com/

Jane lived her life in COLOR… quite literally. Her career began in New York’s garment district and it became evident early on that pattern design and textile development was a perfect fit for Jane. In San Francisco, Jane worked as part of the creative team at Esprit during its heyday in the 80’s – designing everything from prints, embroidery, knits and wovens to scarf, sock and belt design... her dream job! Esprit led to other apparel companies including her own childrenswear company. In 2003, Jane began working with P&B Textiles and discovered that designing for the quilt world could be even more creative than apparel!

Most recently, Jane became part of Pattern Observer's educational team.

“I am loving being a part of Pattern Observer and working with so many incredibly talented students from all over the world; it has always been my dream to teach and I love sharing my passion for textile design with like-minded people.” -Jane Lewis

For those of us who knew and loved Jane, nothing in the world would make her happier than knowing her love of color, pattern and design will live on through this scholarship fund and provide exciting opportunities to new students; sparking new careers in the field of textile design.
