Janelle Cano's Breast Cancer Fund

Hello everyone! My name is Joey Dean and I am writing this story along with my younger siblings Lexi and Christopher. The month of October has always been a month of joy and excitement for us. With the weather cooling down, several family birthdays including our mother's, going to high school football games, and of course the ecstatic feeling of the holidays being right around the corner, the month of October is filled with joyous experiences and memorable feelings that we will carry with us forever. In October 2016, on our mother's 44th birthday (October 5th) she noticed an unusual lump on top of her left breast and immediately went to go see her doctor. Unfortunately, the doctor did not have good news. Janelle was diagnosed with stage 1A triple negative breast cancer and started her chemotherapy immediately after undergoing a lumpectomy surgery. The good news is that it was caught early and there is an immense amount of hope for our mother to beat this evil disease. With the hope of our mother beating her disease and the possibility of her continuing to live her life, another long-term difficulty has presented itself in the form of the financial burden that has been placed on her shoulders and will continue to grow as she undergoes her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Prior to her cancer discovery, Janelle was recovering from a major back surgery that she underwent in November of 2015. Although our mother has tremendously great health insurance as well as an employer that supports her 100% with short term disability to still care for my younger siblings, the benefits are still not sufficient to cover all of her medical expenses. I am creating this fund not as a last resort or out of desparation, but as a means of providing even more hope for our mother so that she will not have to live in enormous financial debt if she does beat this disease. Janelle has given us everything throughout her short life as a single mother. She is our pillar for emotional support and has laid the foundation for us to grow into young adults. She has shown us what is expected of a loving mother. We are her soil, and she is the water, the sunlight, and the nutrients that allow us to grow into strong and successful human beings. If you can support our cause, anything is helpful. We are doing everything we can to support our mother but the byproducts of this disease are overwhelming. Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance if you do choose to support our cause. God bless. Joey, Lexi, and Chris.
