Jane's Gender Affirming Surgery Fund

Hello there. My name is Jane Brigham, and I need money for Gender Confirmation Surgery.

I have known that I am a woman since 2013, I started presenting as a woman in 2016, and I began Hormone Replacement Therapy in August 2019.

Ever since puberty, I felt something wrong with my body. As I aged, I became more alarmed by the person I saw in the mirror. At the age of 15, I realized that this was gender dysphoria and that I would need to physically transition if I was to feel at ease in my own skin. Every step taken towards this goal has helped me. However, there are still two parts of my body that feel viscerally wrong on my body. The first is my face since I have to shave every single day. The second is my genitals since they are entirely at odds with how I see myself as a woman.

My current plan is to get Gender Confirmation surgery from Dr. Rachel Bluebond-Langler at New York University. She is one of the most renowned surgeons in her field in the United States. In addition, her proximity to my home means that I will be able to recover in my own home rather than spend four weeks in a hospital. I currently have a consultation on the 30th of August 2022, and I expect to go for surgery in the summer of 2023.

I am asking for 9,000 USD for the whole process. Six thousand of this cost will go to the cost of surgery and the week-long stay in the hospital. My insurance will cover most of the price, but there is still a hefty co-pay that must be paid. Two thousand of this cost will go to hiring someone to live with me for three weeks as I recover. This is needed because I will be mostly confined to my bed outside of bathroom trips. I will need to be taken care of during this time. The last one thousand will go towards electrolysis on my face and genitals, The former so that I can pass as female more easily, and the latter because it is required to receive Gender Confirmation Surgery.

This process will be the most significant part of my transition. I would not be collecting funds if I didn’t believe it was essential to afford this procedure. In addition, if it turns out that my surgery and associated costs will be less than expected, I will donate any excess money to a transgender charity chosen by the donators.
