Janet's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
My mother, Janet Casper, has served 40+ years as a Registered Nurse, mostly in Cape Girardeau, MO, split between Southeast and Saint Francis.

Several weeks ago, while working, mom noticed something was not right.  An intense chest pain landed her in the ER and it was later found to be a problem with her aortic valve; something that if not fixed, leads to heart failure.  After the completion of her open heart surgery, mom had a setback to recovery. Another surgery was performed to fix the fluid that started to build around her heart and in her left lung.

If that wasn’t enough, the stress of the surgeries simply caused her kidneys to begin to shut down.  Mom was sedated for over two days, while healing from her 2nd surgery, so she could go through a few rounds of kidney dialysis.

Janet Casper has passionately tended to her patients the way she approaches life in general.  Someone’s needs always come before hers.  This is in her DNA, something I would question at times, but she always knew in her heart the ‘someone’ she was helping needed it more.

Janet’s outlook on life has been inspiring not only to myself, but those around her.  She’s been known to be as stubborn as they come, but it’s a trait married to her intense caring for those around her.  I never thought it was possible for her efforts to go noticed; until the Thank You letters from past patients and their families started, and continued, to pour in. These letters and cards were constant, all throughout my youth, even to this day.

Janet's health has improved drastically, thanks to the extraordinary care she received while in the CICU at Saint Francis.  Predictably, she has come home to what are some rather daunting medical bills.

On behalf of her family, we humbly ask to keep Janet in your thoughts and prayers.

We’ve started this page with the hopes that some of mom’s past coworkers, patients and their families would see this and say to themselves, “That sounds exactly like Janet Casper”.

What Janet Casper needs now is what she has avoided all of her life, for others to try and help her out, no matter how small.

We’ve set a lofty goal, a goal we’re not sure will be reached, will fall short, or might even be surpassed.  All we know is what Janet Casper has taught us about doing something for others, never say something isn’t possible.
