Janette Wischerath Care Fund

In late 2018, my mother, Janette Wischerath, was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 brain cancer. She underwent immediate surgery to remove a large tumor and has spent the last several months in recovery, doing chemo and radiation treatment. The doctors successfully removed most of the growth, but there is actually no way to remove all of it and it has affected her left temporal lobe, which is the part of the brain that controls speech. So she has had difficulty remembering words or forming logical sentences from time to time.
Though the outlook is not exactly bright, she has done amazingly well in her post-surgery recovery, and her optimism, humor, and love of family are all intact. She has completed radiation and is now doing chemo for several months. But she still needs daily check-ins to make sure she is getting the right pills and taking care of herself. And since many of us in the family are unable to be with her to check in every day, some type of home care service is becoming crucial, and we know it will become even more critical as time goes on.
Sadly, Mom's insurance does not cover the home care we need. That includes, but is not limited to regular visits from professionals who can help with her medications, speech and/or physical therapy as needed, and overall continued support as time goes on and we traverse the unpredictable turns of this cancer. Many of these services charge an hourly rate up to $20 per hour. And for now, all of that needs to be out of pocket, falling mostly on our stepdad's shoulders. That cost is in addition to frequent doctor visits and numerous medications that are also not entirely covered and end up charging a great deal.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to carry us through the year and help make Mom's life as comfortable as possible in as she endures this challenging time. We can never take for granted how long we will have the ones we love with us, so we hope that you'll donate any amount you can to aid in giving her the best possible care while it's possible.
Janette is a mother of three boys and grandmother of two girls and one boy. She is a former teacher and lover of crafts and sewing. All she has ever wanted is to be surrounded by a loving family, with children and grandchildren, but right after she settled in her new home in North Carolina (a dream of many years) and we followed suit, her whole world was turned upside down. Anything you can do to ease these difficult trials as soon as possible is greatly appreciated, especially as our own schedules become increasingly busy with the demands of work and home life that prevent us from being able to always check on our mother.
Thank you in advance, and much love.
