Janko Andrijasevic – medical expenses

In 2006, Janko was diagnosed with von Hippel Lindau (vHL) Syndrome, a rare familial disease that causes cysts and benign tumors.  Thus far, he has had seven major surgeries due to vHL: four brain surgeries and three kidney cancer surgeries.

In February 2019, he will have a total nephrectomy – a complete surgical removal of the kidneys.  After the nephrectomy, he will begin a routine of dialysis three times a week until a donor kidney becomes available.



Janko is a dual citizen of Montenegro and Croatia, but has been a patient at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland since 2007.  He is enrolled in NIH research studies for vHL, so his surgery will be free.  We are collecting funds to cover the cost of airfare for Janko and a friend who will accompany him, as well as accommodation in America after he is released from the hospital and before he has recovered enough to travel home. 

Janko is an English literature professor at the University of Montenegro, the author of five books, and an all-around decent, kind and smart human being.  He has a strong support system around him, but needs our help getting through this period.
