December 12, 2023 Update:
Update on Jannell 12/12: Jannell noticed a spot a few weeks ago , so today we made a trip to Buffalo and Roswell Cancer Center. Unfortunately, we did not receive the news that we were hoping for. Jannell’s cancer has come back and it wide spread and no surgery is possible. We and Roswell have not given up, they are looking into other options like new clinical trials and other things. Please keep her in your prayers tonight and hug the ones closest to you because you Never know when you can get devastating news. Thank you and if you want to reach out please do. Coach P
December 29, 2022
Hi everyone, I am so saddened to have to re-open this gofundme campaign on behalf of the Pickerals.. but unfortunately, on December 6, 2022 it was confirmed that Jannell is indeed starting battle #6 vs this horrible disease. A small lump proved to be a new cancer on her collarbone. She will be doing 20ish treatments of Radiation starting today, December 29th. Thankfully, these will be done in Watertown at the Walker Cancer Center, under the guidance of her specialists from Roswell in Buffalo. After the treatments she and Rob will go back to Buffalo for rescans. After that they will be scheduling her to have another surgery. This will be another big one. They will be removing the collar bone and tissue around it and then try and reconstruct the area. That will be done end of Feb/ beginning of March. The dates are still tentative. Jannell and Rob are extremely humble, and very open about their fight against this horrific disease - they welcome any questions and of course all the good thoughts, prayers and love they receive - but cancer creates such havoc on the family... . physically and emotionally and especially financially. Travel, surgery, recovery, all of it - can and will be costly yet again. I have reopened this campaign in hopes that we can help the Pickerals ease some of the financial burden as they tackle fight #6.

2020:
From the American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-basics/lifetime-probability-of-developing-or-dying-from-cancer.html
1 in 3 Americans will develop some type of cancer in their lifetime.
1 in 8 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis.
1 in 52 women will develop thyroid cancer.
1 in 250 will be diagnosed with sarcoma, a cancer of the connective tissues. This is less than 1% of all cancer cases. Radiation Induced Sarcomas (RIS), are even more rare. Of the sarcoma cases, only 3% of those are RIS. http://www.sarcomahelp.org/radiation-induced-sarcoma.html
In fewer than ten years, a cherished member of our community has battled them all. Jannell Pickeral beat thyroid cancer in 2009 and breast cancer in 2014; she was recently diagnosed with RIS for the second time in less than a year.
Jannell Pickeral was born and raised in Watertown, New York, and she is in her 30th year of teaching foreign languages at General Brown High School. Her husband, Rob, is an Army veteran who is currently dealing with his own medical issues and is unable to work. Jannell and Rob have two sons, Robbie and Carson. Robbie recently graduated from college, and Carson is currently a freshman in college.
Jannell Pickeral, or "Mrs. P." to her students, has fought cancer since 2009 with unparalleled positivity and courage. Since her first diagnosis, the Pickerals have received an outpouring of emotional support from our Northern New York community. More than ten years later, she is still fighting; therefore we would like to offer her financial support as well. Jannell will be receiving chemo in Syracuse and potentially could face surgery at Roswell (we are hoping this won't be the case).
We are organizing a fundraising event that will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 to help ease the costs of the medical bills and the expenses related to her treatment. We are seeking monetary donations along with items that can be won on the day of the event.. Tickets, experiences, gift certificates, products, services, etc... If you are unable to join us on the 21st, but still want to help Jannell - you can donate here! All proceeds will go directly to Jannell to help her fight this battle!
Please feel free to contact Kristi Bice at [phone redacted] with any questions you may have. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
