Janssen family is in time of need, please HELP!

Hi, my name is Cheryl Caserta. My good friend, Mike Janssen is in need of some help to alleviate some of the financial strain he and his family are going through.

As most of you know, Mike Janssen is a retired Martin County Firefighter/Paramedic. He was not only dedicated to helping people in his community, but he has also been a loving and devoted husband to Rhonda Janssen for 35 years and a wonderful role model for his now, adult children Michael, Shane and Alyssa. If you know them, you know how exceptional they are.

You may have also heard of Mike’s Stage 4 Kidney Cancer diagnosis in December 2020. He has been fighting a long and tough battle since then and has been unable to work. He has had 3 spinal surgeries and despite having chemotherapy he was finally starting to feel pretty good. However, in August 2023 Mike suffered a Tonic-Clonic(Grand Mal) seizure and was rushed by ambulance to the Emergency Department. After an MRI it was revealed that he had a 5cm mass on his brain. Mike had brain surgery on Aug 31st. to remove the tumor and has been home resting but dealing with tremendous headaches and weakness.

While oncologists assumed the brain tumor was a metastasis from the kidney, they were quite shocked to learn from pathology that this brain tumor is a new primary cancer, Glioblastoma. Glioblastomas are very aggressive. While Mike will need to start receiving radiation treatments as well as chemotherapy at University of Miami/Sylvester Cancer Center, M– F for 6 weeks. The hope is that since the tumor was found early that this treatment will be effective. He will also need to continue to receive treatment for the kidney cancer.

Rhonda will drive Mike to Miami daily for this treatment or possibly stay overnight at a hotel to alleviate the daily travel. This will be a great burden not only financially but physically.

If you know Mike, he is too proud to ask for help, but financially the time away from the family business has been a strain, to say the least and will only get worse during these next few months of treatment.
