Jariel was a very normal video playing, basketball loving kid. He had been suffering from a simple headache, oh so we thought for a couple of weeks. His mother Sara (my sister in law) had taken him on numerous occasions to seek medical treatment. He has been seen by his pediatrician and once before at the ER. They kept dismissing him, treating it as a migraine.

On New Year’s Day his dad found him on the bathroom floor crying and throwing up from the pain he was enduring. Rushed one more time to the er and sent back home only for matters to get worse. Jariel started seizuring from what we found out later that horrific night was a brain tumor. Within 24 hours Jariel was rushed into the OR to begin his battle with this tumor. Thankfully the operation was successful and all looked promising, up until the day of discharge. That’s when they gave us the news not only was the tumor malignant, it was also graded as a grade 4. What that means is that he will need intense radiation and Chemo. Luckily there is one place in the state of PA that performs the radiation for his kind of tumor. He will need to be traveling to Philadelphia daily Monday through Friday for 6 weeks to receive it. Which will be a 2 hour drive to and from for him. Then he will be traveling to Hershey for Chemo.

Jariel era un chico muy normal jugando juegos de vídeo, y amante del baloncesto. Jariel había estado sufriendo de un simple dolor de cabeza, así pensábamos durante un par de semanas. Su madre Sara (mi cuñada) lo había llevado en numerosas ocasiones a buscar tratamiento médico. Ha sido visto por su pediatra y una vez antes en la sala de emergencias. Siguieron despidiéndolo, tratándolo como una migraña.

El día de Año Nuevo, su padre lo encontró en el suelo del baño llorando y vomitando por el dolor que estaba sufriendo. Se llevo una vez más a la Sala de emergencia y lo enviaron de vuelta a casa solo para que las cosas empeoraran. Jariel comenzó a convulsionar de lo que descubrimos más tarde esa horrible noche fue un tumor cerebral. En las próximas 24 horas, Jariel fue llevado de urgencia a la sala de operación para comenzar su batalla contra este tumor. Afortunadamente, la operación fue exitosa y todo parecía prometedor, hasta el día del alta. Fue entonces cuando nos dieron la noticia de que el tumor no solo era maligno, sino que también se calificó como un grado 4. Lo que eso significa es que Jariel necesitará radiación intensa y quimioterapia. Afortunadamente, hay un lugar en el estado de PA que realiza la radiación para su tipo de tumor. Tendrá que viajar a Filadelfia todos los días de lunes a viernes durante 6 semanas para recibirlo. Que será para el 2 horas ida y vuelta. Luego viajará a Hershey para la quimioterapia.
