WALKING 17 HOURS TO THE AFL GF FOR MENTAL HEALTH
Hey!
I'm Jarra and ahead of mental health awareness month this year I’ve decided to push myself both physically and mentally as I walk 77km to the MCG spreading a message of support and hope to those struggling with their mental health. All donations will go to '20talk' directly, in the hopes that they can use the money to continue helping folks like myself seeking the strength, courage and support to open up and talk about the issues we face.
Starting at 6 PM on the 22nd of September from Garfield, VIC, I will walk 17 hours and 77 kms to the MCG this grand final week. You can follow along on my TikTok page for updates (@davisjarra) as well as a youtube video to encapsulate the walk to be uploaded shortly after the completion (DavisJarra).
You can follow along my trek, share your own story, donate here to '20talk', and even start your own fundraiser and mission here. Any mental health charity fundraiser started on GoFundMe after September 1 and before October 31st will receive automatically receive a $50 donation.
I've decided to embark on this journey as i've found when in my toughest times, going for a walk and having a chat with friends and family have been instrumental in pulling me out of my slump. I remember not long ago I was in a pretty poor mental state and so I decided that i'd go on a walk, turns out i just kept walking. By the end of it, it was 1am and I had walked around 20km in what felt like mere minutes. So, I decided to blend 2 of my favourite things, walking and the footy to help spread some positivity and hopefully raise some funds for an awesome charity.
Along the way, im hoping to talk to as many people as possible about mental health and their own personal journeys in an effort to inspire and show that we truly are not alone in our darkest times.
So please, if you can, donate to this awesome charity, share it around, reach out and have a conversation with your loved ones and mates and most importantly, take care.
Cheers.
