Hi. My name is Simon Weaver and I run a small martial arts school in the Northeast of England - Jarrow Kempo Jujutsu
We are a traditional Japanese Jujitsu club, studying all aspects of striking, throwing and restraint techniques, as well as all traditional weapons. The club has been running for 10 years (Est Feb 2014) teaching everyone who wants to train from the age of 7yrs old.
The club is a not for profit, and all money that is made is reinvested in providing resources for the students.
Through a mentor and friend in Japan, I was given a great opportunity to join the Zen Nihon Batto Do Renmei (ZNBDR), making us, the first club from the association to be recognised in the UK. (ZNBDR - Branch List )
ZNBDR is a Japanese sword association, that practice tameshigiri (Examples of cutting ) as part of the syllabus. Through the support of my mentor in Japan and having the chance to go to Japan to train, I have been able to offer a new venture with a separate sword school.
At the moment, the Tatami mats available in the UK are not the same quality as those from Japan and are expensive, the comparable product is £9.50 per mat, and it takes at least 2 mats to make 1 cutting target.
The ZNBDR offer support to the clubs outside of Japan by providing high quality Japanese Tatami for them to train with.
The cost of shipping is £7000, with the additional cost of transportation from the port to the place of storage (approximately £1000), however for this, we receive a 20 ft shipping container filled with mats making the mat significantly more affordable than the available products.
