Jason P. Cisneros Everyday Hero Scholarship 2023

Donation protected
The Jason P. Cisneros Everyday Hero Scholarship was created to honor KIPP Sunnyside founder and alum Jason Cisneros. On April 22, 2016, Jason heroically gave his life to protect the life of a pregnant women who was being assaulted by her boyfriend.

A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Within every human being on this planet, An Everyday Hero is expressed by simple, ordinary actions. Heroes do simple acts; of kindness, courage, and love. While Jason’s story is heartbreaking, we focus on the courageous and heroic person Jason was in all areas of his life. He is a real Everyday Hero.

Jason consistently exemplified KIPP Sunnyside’s core values of Scholarship, Courage, and Community. Jason’s friends, family, and faculty created the Everyday Hero Scholarship Fund to honor his memory. Jason was in college at the time, working on becoming a police officer. In 2016, HPD posthumously made Jason an honorary Houston Police Officer. Every year during April, we remember Jason’s heroic sacrifice and encourage our Team & Family to live out our core value of Courage in their everyday lives.

Since 2016, at least one graduate of KIPP Sunnyside has been presented with a prestigious scholarship from this fund. Applicants are judged on their consistent demonstration of Jason and Sunnyside’s core values, especially courage and community. The scholarship is intended to help recipients flourish at college or university.

This year and for years to follow, we would like to commemorate his sacrifice by fundraising on the day he made his legacy as an Every Day hero. The proceeds collected on this Go fund me page will be sent directly to the Jason P. Cisneros Everyday Hero Scholarship to assist its future recipients.
