Jason Rhodes - brain surgery to save his vision
Donation protected
I'm setting this fund up on the behalf of my nephew, Jason Rhodes, for a chance to save his sight. In 2015 when he was 29 years old, Jason was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor. For Jason, his symptoms exhibited dramatically. Several surgeries and radiation ultimately left him legally blind (with some preserved sight), and dependent on a number of hormonal therapies for life, with concern for complications over time. His tumor, though not gone, had stabilized, and he returned to school part-time in late 2018. He acquired his bachelor’s degree from Bryant University this past year and will receive his MS in Accounting this May and start a full-time position at PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in the fall. Unfortunately, it was recently discovered that his tumor grew back considerably, with concern that it would render him fully blind. Given the risks of the delicate surgical intervention needed, his surgical team connected with Standford University where an internationally renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Juan Fernandez-Miranda, has taken an interest in his case. Jason will be flying out just after graduation in May to receive surgery, which is likely his final chance to preserve his limited vision and reduce the likelihood of future complications.
Though the surgery itself is mostly covered, the copayments, travel and lodging are not. Jason and his mother (my sister Susan) will be traveling to Palo Alto later this month, and expenses will be significant for the three-plus weeks they will be required to stay for surgery and recovery. If you are able, please consider a donation so that he can focus on his surgery and recovery and continue to look forward to a bright future.
