“We are drowning in medical debt. We are struggling to make payments. It’s getting to the point I’m going to have to let it go.”
These are the words my sister-in-law said to me as we’re sitting in the ICU. My brother, Jason, is recovering from sudden cardiac arrest secondary to right heart failure in the setting of massive pulmonary embolism. Can you imagine? An otherwise healthy, 30 y/o, father of 1 and a half children (one still cooking), lying in the bed 3 feet away, with a tube down his throat, machines beeping, nurses coming and going, and here sits his wife, my sister-in-law…wondering how they will survive after this?
When my brother wakes up (not if, we don’t have time for thoughts like “if”), I don’t want them to be worried about how to keep a roof over their heads, how to feed themselves, how to LIVE.
Please, if you have a moment, share this story. Jason is so beloved. He is larger than life. I don’t want to lose him. He is fighting. Can you please help?
