Jason Stotlemyer paralyzed from a violent crime
Donation protected
On Feb 2, 2019, Jason Stotlemyer was at work when he became the victim of a violent crime that changed his life forever. After several surgeries, a partial lobectomy to his right lung, and 4 days on full life support, Jason woke up grateful to be alive. However, it was not long before doctors advised him that he was now paralyzed from mid-chest down and would not walk again.
In addition to the love and support of his family and friends, his strong will and determination have given him the motivation that he needs to focus on his immediate recovery and to never give up. Jason is now forced to adapt to living his life and raising his 8 month old son in a
completely different way.
Due to a major leg surgery in October, Jason was no longer able to perform his duties working in the construction industry. In order to continue to provide for his then 6 month old son and fiancé, he had recently started working in a new profession as a tow truck driver.
Unaware of the politics and territorial nature of the tow truck industry in the City of Pittsburgh, Jason was first to respond to the scene of an accident. Shortly after, he was confronted by several people
from a rival tow truck company who were determined to bully him away from the scene in order to claim the tow. Ultimately Jason was shot by one of the men.
Jason is still recovering and has a very LONG road ahead of him. Facing a life paralyzed and in a wheelchair, Jason is trying to be positive and remains grateful that he is still alive to raise his son alongside his fiancé, and he is determined to make the most of each day.
Currently, Jason is obviously unable to work and still has to wait many months before disability benefits can commence. Although his family is helping as much as they can (physically and monetarily), the financial burdens associated with his medical care and the equipment necessary for his immediate day to day care and safety is beyond their means.
This family truly needs and appreciates any and all help that they can get.
