Whitaker Family Home Fire

Donation protected
My brother-in-law, Jason Whitaker, and his family were in Ohio at his grandmother’s memorial service when their home suddenly caught fire. They live in an extremely rural area near Campton, Kentucky, which meant that the fire department could not make it there for 20+ minutes. By then, it was too late. The fire was ruled to be an electrical failure in the air conditioner/furnace. The home is a complete loss — there is nothing left.

While we are incredibly grateful that no-one was home and their beloved dog was staying with local family, this is a devastating loss.

Earlier this year, Jason was diagnosed with Stage III squamous cell carcinoma of the throat and underwent 8 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. The treatment took a severe pain etoll and left Jason very underweight and weak as he could swallow very little food or liquid. He is still in the recovery process and undergoing various testing to ensure the cancer has not returned or metastasized to other organs.

In addition, he and his wife Starla have a 15-year-old daughter named Alyssa who has an extremely rare congenital disorder called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva. This disorder requires them to care for and assist her with most daily personal tasks as she loses mobility rdue to her connective tissue, muscle, and joints ossifying and turning to bone. Alyssa is currently in the middle of a promising clinical trial and has just begun high school.

If all of these struggles were not enough, they are also raising and caring for their 2-year-old granddaughter, McKenzie.

Jason and his family have already endured so incredibly much this year, and now must rebuild their lives from scratch. Every donation helps no matter how small, so if you have anything at all to give, please consider donating to help his family make it through this hardship. Above all, please keep them in your prayers. Thank you so much for your time.
