Jason's Continuing Battle With Adversity
Donation protected
My name is Cheryl, and I'm Mom to a most amazing son, Jason. My son is 24 years old, and in his short life, he has managed to survive so many trials and tribulations, including adversity from an early diagnosis of Asperger's and ADD, struggling through school against bullies and physical limitations such as toe walking and poor eyesight. Words cannot express how proud I am to have watched him beat all these battles and continue growing into the most intelligent, caring, and loving person I know. He obtained an associate degree with high honors and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and began working at a senior home as a Dietary Aide where he takes care of others in the most selfless way.
After all these strides, nothing could have prepared us for his current battle. Just this January 2023, Jason was diagnosed with a rare form of spinal cancer. A tumor was pressing on the nerves of his spinal cord that was affecting his ability to walk properly and creating excruciating pain in his back. He has undergone surgery to remove the tumor, but only part of it could be removed without causing paralysis. He is getting acute rehabilitation, but that's only a short-term answer to a long-term problem as we prepare him for radiation (and possibly chemo) therapy, which will hopefully eradicate the remaining cancer cells without creating further damage to his spinal cord and surrounding nerves.
My son and I work for the same senior facility, and our non-profit health insurance covers only so much of the thousands of dollars this trial will cost. We need help paying medical expenses and housing-related expenses as we prepare our home to be more accessible to his needs and get him medical care from the best cancer doctors available to us. We will also have transportation costs and much more as Jason once again has a great battle ahead of him. I love my son, and we need your help in his continuing battle with adversity. Thank you!
