JASON'S WALK FOR LAURIE

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Anne Campion and I have created this campaign on behalf of my friends, Jason Means and Laurie Tolen.
On Monday August 14, 2023 at 8:00am Jason Means, a 61yr old disabled man, will embark on his 2nd walk for Laurie. This time from the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge. This walk will cover a distance of 300 miles or more. Jason will be walking with his new walker through Sausalito, Tiburon, Belvedere, San Rafael. He will be crossing over 4 Bridges and the Causeway all together on his trek to the State Capital. This time he will circle the Capitol and camp out on the lawn if necessary until Jason and Laurie get the answers and help they so deserve.
Remember, this is not just about them, but all of the homeless people with life threatening illnesses and that are disabled.
Along the way to the Capitol again we hope to raise funds for Laurie through this heroic walk for life, to be known as Jason's Walk for Laurie. Any funds raised through GoFundMe will go toward sustaining our friends through this journey. It will go towards alternative medicines and treatments for Laurie's Cancer as well as nutritious food, transportation and gas to and from the treatments and doctors appointments plus the basic necessities of life. Most importantly, your kindness, prayers and generosity will help Laurie live somewhat more comfortably without the daily stress of homelessness, illness and physical disabilities.

About Jason & Laurie
Jason & Laurie owned a small business that was well on its way to success when the pandemic hit and, like thousands of others, they lost their business, income, savings, then their home. After being evicted they slept in their separate vehicles every night, often parking side by side for safety. Laurie is a proud and private woman who never would think of asking for help or displaying the struggles she deals with on a daily basis. Jason is an extraordinary man who loves Laurie more then life itself and refuses to give up on his quest to give Laurie the life she deserves.

The Cancer
On June 7, 2022, Laurie was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC). She underwent 2 surgeries and 3 procedures and yet the subsequent pathology report showed the existence of more cancer. Most recently, a battery of tests revealed "significant findings" in Laurie's right lung; three days later the results from a cranial MRI showed lesions in her brain as well. The specifics are not yet known.

A Statement from Laurie Tolen 6/26/2023

"This is a very difficult and humbling experience. We have always been persons who worked hard, and it matters what others think of us. Never wanting anyone to know the desperate situation we find ourselves in today. We do not have the luxury at this time to bargain for anything beyond what is necessary. Pride vs. the reality of homelessness and a life threatening disease plus the daily struggles. And only receiving $158 a month for the past year through county funding.

Jason and Laurie live in a 1988 Allegra RV (that was bought at the time Laurie was diagnosed) that has a blown motor, leaks like crazy, generator quit working and is basically no more than a shell. Jason's truck that he used for our business has over 250,000 miles on it and barely runs. The catalytic converter was stolen, so it can't be smogged. Registration is out since 2019

What we are asking and praying for is a 2005 or newer RV or truck & trailer. Either one be fully self contained and operable. We humbly ask for your assistance and plead with your heart to donate an RV or Truck and Trailer to us giving us the option once Laurie's cancer treatments are completed to travel somewhere else that is more affordable and less stressful. Somewhere that Laurie can get the rest, nutrition and relaxation she needs to continue to battle this life threatening illness. We have the support and kindness of the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department behind us and who can verify any of our information.

Jason has also stated that once he reaches the State Capital again, he would like to speak to an Assembly Member about getting a bill started that would help improve the lives of other homeless individuals with disabilities and life threatening illnesses. The last person we spoke with just looked us straight in the face and lied to us. Obviously, the Governor of this State is just too busy to be bothered with us.

Thank you for reading this.
God Bless to all!
