Jasper's Jungle School Project
I’m Jasper, a travel photographer/ filmmaker passionate about telling people’s stories from around the world.
After documenting my helicopter pilot friend Daniel’s medical evac work in the remotest parts of Palawan, Philippines, we came across a jungle school run by one of the natives who was also a product of the same learning path. Teacher Jilin is a product of a jungle school and decded to give back to her community by setting up her own.
This encounter really inspired me then I got this crazy idea to build another school in a different part of the area that is 100% funded by social media. Sounds crazy but I want to give it a shot!
A remote village we were conducting a medical-dental mission at told us they wanted a school in their area. So we’re building one there!
We’re raising $10,000 that will cover construction and operating expenses. A teacher’s one year stipend costs $2,000. Two will be needed to run the school. Other funds raised will go towards maintenance costs, supplies, feeding the kids, and medical and dental missions for the community.
Access to education is life-changing. It opens up a host of opportunities that allows people to actively participate in society, and make more informed decisions regarding all aspects of their life--from livelihood, healthcare, and even marriage.
