Celebration of life for Javiera Rodriguez
Donation protected
On April 2, 2020 the Rodriguez family received the most devastating news a family can ever hear. Javiera, their beloved daughter and sister, had died due to complications of COVID-19. She spent the last days of her life alone in a hospital room. That someone so full of life is now gone feels surreal. Many of us are still in shock and disbelief.
Javi was the bedrock of her family, of her community. She was a force to be reckoned with, and a bright star, whose warmth lit up any room she entered. You could be sure she would always greet you with a radiant smile and her deep green eyes, and enthrall you with a hug, a sweet kiss on the cheek and profound conversations. The love and energy she invested in her passions were unparalleled.
As a school social worker she was a stark advocate for underprivileged students. They were her kids. And their needs, inside and outside of school, were her needs. Javi always went far above and beyond so those needs were met. She loved to host teatime with her kids, putting them at ease so they could channel their feelings. She found a food pantry for a homeless student of hers so he never missed a meal. She co-created a skills training program for students. Her desire to help was insatiable.
Javi was an artist at heart, her creativity was awe-inspiring. She transformed stones, metal and bones into visions of her world. Her jewelry was displayed in art galleries, adorned on models for fashion photography and worn by anyone lucky enough to have one of her unique pieces. She was a pillar of the Jersey City artist community and her partnership at the Raven gallery supported countless creative minds. Every year, Javi looked forward to contributing to the Art House’s Snowball event. Seeing her imagination come to life and dance to the collective beauty of the artists was a sight to behold. She marched to the beat of her own drum. Art, music, dancing flowed through her veins.
The love Javi had for family and friends was her greatest passion. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. If you were in her life, you felt special. She made time to listen, always. Gave thoughtful advice. Gave the best hugs. And she would grab you by the hand and whisk you away to dance every chance she got. Her family was her everything, their bond unbreakable.
Please take the time to help them through this painful moment by easing the burden of unforeseen expenses and debt. The proceeds will go towards funeral arrangements, outstanding expenses and debt, and a memorial gathering once we collectively turn the corner in this pandemic to celebrate Javi’s life together. Thank you in advance for contributing and helping to keep Javi’s glowing star shining bright!
