Javier’s heart transplant

Friends, family and fellow community,

My name is Angelica Pedroza and my family and I reach out to you with some need of help. I appreciate and thank you in advance for taking the time to read this story.

On 5/23/2023 my son Javier was in school like any other normal day. I received a phone call that dropped my body to the floor, as it would any mother. I was given the news that Javi was in a state of cardiogenic shock. Doctors notified me that his heart function had decreased to the point where it would no longer work on its own. Given his critical state, he was placed on the heart transplant list. Immediate interventions were placed and a cardiac device (Impella) was inserted to keep his heart pumping for the time being. The device was only designed for short term use but was necessary to help buy him and our family time to figure out a plan which would ensure his survival.

Through the grace of God, Javi was fortunate enough to receive a new heart on time. A 10-hour surgery was performed and my son now lives with a new donor heart. Although God has been by our side, we are still left with many difficulties. Javi’s recovery process has been nothing but easy and the financial strain of such medical procedures and other necessities have made it even harder on our journey to help Javi get back to normal. Ongoing care with physical and occupational therapy, weekly doctors visits, heart transplant deductibles, and medication co-pays have caused my family some financial troubles. Any money donated will be used to help aid us through these struggling times.
