Jay Florian, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on October 18, 2022 after 20 horrific days of inpatient hospitalization at Froedtert South in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, followed by 3 days of hospice care at home and inpatient at Alliance Hospice's Hospice House.
Jay was initially admitted to the hospital on 9/27 after sustaining a stroke in his home, resulting in left-hand weakness. After a sudden progression of this stroke, he required a craniotomy on 9/28 and eventually sustained a second stroke on 10/4, affecting his speech, cognition, and vision. Throughout all of this, Jay was simultaneously battling a cancer diagnosis handed to him after an abdominal CT scan: pancreatic, liver, and lung lesions. Unfortunately, this cancer progressed quickly. Ultimately, Jay and his family decided to go home on hospice rather than suffer through any form of cancer treatment that could cause tremendous suffering.
Due to the emergent nature of Jay's condition, his cares were necessary; however, unfortunately, some of the specialty neurological care and surgery he required were not in network with his insurance. We are seeking funds to help pay for these exorbitant medical bills and for funeral expenses to help ease the stress on his family during this time. Excess funds beyond these basic needs will be used for a memorial in his honor and/or as a donation to the Sierra Club, an environmental organization Jay was passionate about.
